Editor’s note:
The End of Being is very happy to bring you our own lovely chanteuse, Lily Taylor, and her new album, Overtones.

I’m the kind of person who has to talk about what I’m doing in order for things to really take place. My debut album, Overtones, was no exception. The album took 3 years to compete, and if I hadn’t already talked it up so much, I may have abandoned the project long ago.

Sean Miller began recording my little singer-song-writer-via-piano pieces at the Booth St. Studio in Santa Fe, NM. We started tracking the piano, only to be interrupted by a move west to San Francisco, CA. Sean and I didn’t know any musicians in the city, so we were left with the question, “how are we going to fill this album out,” sonically speaking. We ended up filling the songs with vocal harmony, playing on the concept of the overtones series. In the end we had created a really interesting texture. Sean added some atmospheric instrumentation, and I added a few synth lines. Ryan Kleeman at Sound Arts Studios polished everything up, and Joe Picard took some wonderful photos for the album art. We sent the album to print, only for it to be lost in the mail.

Here is a little taste – LISTEN to the track, “Go”

“Go”
Lily Taylor – Overtones

Say it one more time
Say it one more time
Then I’ll go, yes I’ll go
But I want to remember the touch of your hand
so, I’ll go slow
I’ll go slowly
Far too many voices in my life
are leading me blind and bleeding me dry
So, I’ll go
yes, I’ll go
But I want to remember the way this felt
So I wont regret the cards I’ve been dealt
When I go, when I go
So, say it one more time
Just say my name one more time
Then I swear I’ll go
yes, I’ll go
But I want to remember the way this felt
So, I wont regret the cards I’ve been dealt
When I go, when I go

After some magic making, Overtones is now available for purchase.
You may send check or money order in the amount of $12 to:

795 Geary St. #605, San Francisco, CA 94109

I will personally mail you a copy of the album and a sticker (while supplies last).

***Currently, I am working on songs composed on a keyboard sent through a delay pedal (I call it a synth, but technically it isn’t). I also use a looping pedal. I loop synth lines as well as vocal lines, playing off of the idea around the harmony structures used in Overtones.

These tracks will be available on a limited edition cassette tape release on March 27th, 2010 at CounterPULSE, San Francisco, CA.
