ALEX CHILTON – R.I.P.

by Red Cell

Cult hero and pop song-smith (and personal hero of mine), Alex Chilton has been reported dead. He was a member of ’60s bands the Box Tops and ’70s power-pop act Big Star. He produced the Cramps’ first songs. and released numerous, amazing solo LPs too. He will be missed.

Chilton died just hours ago in a New Orleans hospital at the age of 59. The cause of death is believed to be a heart attack. This is confirmed by Jody Stephens of Big Star.

Alex, I would like to thank you for so sweetly passing the bread and conversation to me in our meeting. You were an inspiration and a pleasure to have known. Now, out of the 7 of us, only 4 are left.
