This is our 100th post!
Right off the bat, every one of these “portaits” is a real person, a living work of art!
Alexa Meade is a 23 year old mixed media artist based in Washington, DC. She creates works of living portraiture, “installing” these works in places like subways and street corners. Meade incorporates painting, sculpture, performance art, architecture, found objects and live models in her genre defying pieces. Her work challenges our perception and how we experience the space around us.
From her Bio:
“A major concept I adapted from my background in political communications and applied to my art is that what one experiences cannot always be interpreted at face value; seeing is not necessarily believing. My painting technique pushes the boundaries of perception, compressing 3D space into a 2D plane, effectively blurring the lines between art and life. The living paintings series is my spin on reality. By wrapping my subject in a mask of paint, I skew the way that the core of the subject is perceived.”
Alexa’s next art show opens Friday, April 2nd 2010, at Postmasters Gallery in New York City, NY.
