BERLIN NOW is a 1985 film by Wolfgang Büld featuring some of the most groundbreaking and important experimental musicians of the 80s. Einstürzende Neubauten, Die Haut, Blixa Bargeld, Alexander Hacke, FM Einheit, Mona Mur and many more. The film revolves around the divide between the political whitewashing and cultivation of the “New Berlin” and what the city actually is, a place filled with rotting, empty building and deserted lots. But, it is the music in this movie that speaks to the heart of the matter. Einstürzende Neubauten’s very name means collapsing new buildings. The experimental music form this part of the world delves heavily into deconstruction not only as metaphor and instruction, but also literally. As the film bounces around styles like TV movie of the week to underground exploitation, the music is what solidifies and gives continuity. It is a specific time in a specific place that feels both nostalgic and cutting edge.

The Director, Büld, had a reputation for understanding underground music, having produced films like, ‘Punk in London’ (1977), ‘Reggae in Babylon’ (1978) and ‘British Rock’ (1979).

The End justifing the Beings i reckon..
wonderful addition to the webosphere…keep it up:)
I take issue that experimental music is obsure…the whole ethos of artistry is push boundaries or put an emotional angle into a given perspective.
‘Popular’ media do not follow this ethos,it is an enthusiam for marketing techniques…with the basis for ‘shifting units’…Warhol explained this, but as ‘popular’ culture took him for their own,and in the interests of marketing a cult moneyspinner, rinsed the art and meaning out of it.
You could argue that having ‘no meaning’ and being absolutely focused in brainwashing art capitalists is an artform, but’its moved into dead horse flogging territory now :s
    Nonetheless.keep communicating,its all circles anyway ;)
