My new short “Retrograde Premonition” will premiere on Sunday Sept 26th at two fests almost simultaneously. “Retrograde Premonition” is one segment of an in-progress 12-15 segment piece that embraces a floating consciousness style of video-making. It is a very dense 5 minute HD video shot entirely with digital stills that I wove into video streams with a rather thick soundtrack.
”Retrograde Premonition” looks and sounds like floating mind—the vicissitudes of thought, feeling, and the senses. Not limited by the portrayal of actual events, this video works to encourage a roaming consciousness through images and sounds that may or may not be present.
For those in NYC, it will be in the “Cracked Light” program at Video Dumbo at 8:30PM Sunday Sept 26.
For those of you in or near Dallas, it will be in the “Vault of Visions” program at the Dallas Video Fest at 2:30PM Sunday Sept 26.
If you are near either of these fests, I hope you can make it.
Pierce shoots these videos with a digital still camera handheld at long exposures and then weaves the stills into video shots. Each individual image bears the mark of time from motion blur—a blur that may in fact contradict the apparent motion of the frame. He composes the entire soundscape once picture editing is complete.
