Dossier’s Skye Parrott and Alec Friedman curate their new photography show at LA’s Space 15 Twenty.
Curated by Skye Parrott and Alec Friedman of Dossier Journal, ‘Secrets’, a group photography exhibition will be showing at the Gallery Space at Space 15 Twenty. Comprised of 39 photographers’ visual responses to ‘when asked to tell a secret’, biannual arts and culture magazine Dossier has since its inception in May 2008, been themed around not having a theme, making this guiding question a unique curatorial exercise. The show will be featuring the likes of Samantha Casolari, David Armstrong, Hisham Bharoocha, Pamela Love, Angela Boatwright, Peter Sutherland, Robin Broadbent, Cody Chandler, Rachel Chandler, Jessica Craig-Martin, to Marcelo Gomes, Cass Bird and Richard Kern. We speak to participant Ola Rindal, about his photographs…
Dazed Digital: Your photos tend to have an off or eerie feel about them, where do you find your inspirations for your photography?
Ola Rindal: My pictures comes to me from what I see around me, but I guess that I look for the small things that sticks out from the ordinary. It could be just a change in the light, a bird or a paper on the asphalt. Inspiration is everywhere.
DD: You were born in Norway but raised in Paris? Do you feel where you have grown up influences your work?
Ola Rindal: Definitely! I was born and raised on a small farm in the norwegian countryside, and the nature, the light, the silence and a sort of melancholic feeling in my work must come from there. I came to France in 2001.
DD: What equipment do you like to use?
Ola Rindal: I still mainly use my old Nikon FE2 with a 50mm.
DD: Do you know the other photographers involved? Do you feel there is a particular common link between you?
Ola Rindal: It seams to me that most photographers in the show works form personal experiences, from their own lived life. Like taking photographs is a way of living. There is an overall honesty in the way the artists approaches their subjects and create their universe.
