The great imitator Mike Bidlo, key figure of the appropriationist movement, takes on Andy Warhol’s Factory in this 1984 video clip. While famous for accurate recreations of Pollock, Picasso, Duchamp, Man Ray, and many others’ physical work, Bidlo extends his practice to include the full spectrum of his modernist heroes’ actions by acting out events like Pollock’s urinating into Peggy Guggenheim’s fireplace.
Bidlo commonly titles his works with “not” proceeding the name of the artist he is recreating, i.e. “Not Pollock.” Not actually titled “Not Andy Warhol’s Facotry” but simply “Andy Warhol Factory,” this 8 minute video was fashioned by David Blair, the man behind WAX or the Discovery of Television Among the Bees, the first film to be broadcast on the internet.
