CONFECTIONS WITH BITE — Scott Hove’s Own Private Apocalypse

by Samantha Anne Carrillo

Fans of Oakland-based artist Scott Hove’s Cakeland series are in for a real treat as La Luz De Jesus Gallery unveils new, apocalyptic-themed works by Hove. My Own Private Apocalypse finds Hove injecting his Cakeland aesthetic with his own visions of the end of days. Hove’s trademark sumptuous peaks of frosting, dark cherries, and taxidermy jaws are mixed in with animal horns, stripper shoes, ex votos, berries, and oodles of anxiety. If you’ll be in El Lay this weekend, check out these discomfiting confections in the proverbial flesh at La Luz De Jesus starting on Friday, April 6. Otherwise, scroll on to experience the end of the world as Scott Hove knows it.
