Candie Hank is the mischievous alter-ego of Berlin-based electronic master Patric Catani, a prolific producer whose catalog ranges from work with Puppetmastaz to Mouse On Mars. Candie Hank’s highly acclaimed 2014 album Demons showcases strong development in his ability to meld disparate genres and calculate manic beats into something comprehensive; an uncanny blend of surf, polka, hip-hop, and psychobilly filtered through his signature 8-bit pop approach. The album offers vocal appearances from Yuko Matsuyama and Patric Catani himself. Having produced work with Angie Reed, it is a fitting gesture to have her fabricate the visual compliment to the track “Elevator Life.” Along with the video release comes the announcement of an expanded “Add-On” release of Demons slated for March 7th on Shitkatapult.
CANDIE HANK – “Elevator Life” (Dir. Angie Reed)
Reminiscent of Atari-era gaming, “Elevator Life” is a hyper-saturated, sugary overdose of dancing gumdrops and twirling suckers. Candy cane hallways present a disorienting thrill-ride between lifts occupied by classy ladies and gents with decadent sensibilities. The surreal video blips along with Hank’s clever production work within the thriving rectangular frame, visually mirroring the subtle complexity behind the catchy tune. Angie Reed’s videography includes work for Peaches and Mark Stewart and has honed a smart, distinct, DIY aesthetic. The video is best viewed full-screen at HD resolution to catch all the marvelous details of this tasty, sophisticated playtime.
