Artist and filmmaker Diego Barrera (Celestial Twins) continues to stun us with his transcendent, poetic visual language. Developing upon his exploration of gender duality and sacred sexuality, he evokes androgynous mysticism for his latest music video for Lena Platonos, a Greek electro artist whose work has influenced alternative threads since the early 80’s. Based in androgenization rites of passage and discovery – a subject that has Barrera deeply embedded in research and fascination – the video for “Bloody Shadows From Afar” acts as a symbol of this process; the journey of the biological male towards the feminine principle. “Let’s drive the male element towards the sacred womb,” states Barrera. In vivid, lo-fi glory, his color saturated video ritual entrances us into a state of divine sexual introspection.
Diego Barrera is currently based out of Santiago, Chile, and has produced work for Jim Jarmusch, Xiu Xiu, Mater Suspiria Vision, and others. Lena Platonos’ “Bloody Shadows From Afar” is off her 1985 solo album Gallop, recently remastered and reissued by Dark Entries Records.
