Billy Marshall-Stoneking (b. 1947) is an Australian/American poet/playwright and author of seven books, including the modern-day Australian classic, Singing the Snake: Poems from the Western Desert. In 1988, he was awarded the prestigious Bill Harney Prize for Poetry, and in 2008, his poem, “The Seasons of Fire”, was chosen by Australian poet laurette, Les Murray, as one of the 10 best Australian poems ever written. Billy’s plays and poems have been performed globally with major productions of his full-length play about Ezra Pound (Sixteen Words for Water) in New York, London, Sydney, Dublin and Washington.
