Great news! I thought the first one was the definitive Boyd Rice interview, so I’m glad you found new territory to mine.

Two questions:

1. Did you cut out the Lisa Carver stuff from the first interview? I noticed it in the text interview on WFMU but didn’t hear anything on the MP3.

2. In the original interview, what song plays from 1hr 10 mins to 1hr 16 mins? It is haunting.

I am curious Sandie, do you know how you contracted such a devastating disease? Polio vaccine came out in 1955. You were born a couple years after that. I don’t know much about the disease except for that before 1955 it crippled millions across the globe.

The drum sound was reminding me of my deep emotional breakdowns while the eco of the event is so powerful that I am not able to think.

While she was tiding her hand, I realized the moments that I make my suffers like a game to not realize that I am getting deeply heart.
I saw myself as the source of my pain and realized how I victimize myself and feel pity for myself.

The ending was perfect! Finally, each of us will stand for herself before and for the others.

I also very much liked the style of the shooting. The shots are very simple but not clear! As an audience, the fact that I was not able to see what I wanted/expected to see in each scene, give me this opportunity to identify with my vague feelings about what I am I really doing while I am sacrificing myself in relationships.

MUTE has just arranged for the 16 minute short – which is a complete reworking of the original 22 minute film – to be screened at Malmo Festival. I have no idea when the DVD set will be released but I’m guessing this year.

This text also notes that: “[Reiniger] did not favor agitprop art. Yet, Reiniger was very political and associated a great deal with communists and socialists, including her husband, Carl Koch, with whom she worked and she took a strong stand against the Nazis. Denied a visa by England, she had to spend the war years in Italy and Germany and finally emigrated to England in the 1950s, where she continued her remarkable work as the foremost silhouette artist in the world.”

I must say this piece doesn’t seem particularly subversive, but I can see why it would have been treated as such in the political climate of the time. I wonder – were there similar movements in the West at the time?

I don’t think you understand the purpose of theory in radical communities. Reducing texts to their practical applications seems silly, as does reducing the authors to your theoretical attributions of their class and privilege.

You didn’t do much better than Beck, frankly. This whole writing about novel subjects doesn’t work when you can’t parse it worth shit.

That’s because we understand that the working class has no interest in fixing the State and the structure of captalism–the very mechanisms that are oppressing us. I suggest you re-read our book. It seems you missed some things. We acknowledge the practical realities of surviving in the current system. Working jobs we hate, shoplifiting and squatting are all temporary solutions. The idea of the commune in our thought is informal. It is invisble, and it is pervasive. Growing the communes means constructing ways of life outside and set against the capitalist structure. People feeding each other, sharing time, sharing money, sharing skills, sharing education, sharing advice, sharing services. The things that COMMUNities used to do, back before late capitalism destroyed these things by making all of parts of life a commodity to be sold.

Idealism has become a dirty word for those who would rather resign themselves to the enormity of the Spectacle rather than accept any responsibility for perpetuating or destroying it.

Are we bored? Yes, we are bored. Some bored from unemployment, bored from working arduous hours. Some bored from the cubicle, others from the body shop. We are bored of Western civilization because it is a mockery, a silicone imitation of life.

Are we educated? Sure, a lot of us are. The idea that the educated person must somehow be out of touch with the populace is a fiction used to encourage the working class to remain ignorant. While we are critical of academia, we reject anti-intellectualism.

As far as your assertion that we are all upper class, I don’t know where your source is for that. We comprise many different backgrounds. There are plenty of us who have never had the opportunity to travel anywhere or fancy and wine and cheese and have known nothing but a working class or underclass existence.

“Ferry, the Human Frog” appears to be a popular Australian/New Zealand act from the turn of the twentieth century.

The “Nostradamus Jr.” poster has Spanish blurbs.

“Chassino,” I suspect is an American or Canadian poster for a French act that toured the USA circa 1909.

“Der Dampfmensch” or steam man is obviously in German, and is an Austrian poster for an act from Australia. It also appears to be from outside the given time frame; it is dated 1880 according to another published view.

“Die Mysteriösen Catakomben” is also obviously in German, and is also dated 1880.

The “Eighth Wonder of the World” seems most likely to be an American poster for Barnum’s Millie and Christine McCoy, conjoined (and ex-slave) twins.

I’m not sure what that last picture is, but it sure doesn’t look like a circus poster.

It reminds me of a poem that I read once about the increasing ease it became to kill a man transitioning from stoning, nailing someone to a cross, and then bullets. Our history is very important and without it we will not have an identity or a future.

Many ‘moderate’ muslims dont actually believe anything about their religion, but cannot leave or convert away for fear of being tortured and murdered by their own families in the name of Islam’s ‘honour’.

Karin often uses voice modulation in her songs, and I’ve heard a rumor that the male voices in The Knife are not her brother, but her. So, the voices in these songs could easily be her.

But, while The Knife recently released their new album, the sound and aesthetic are completely different. This makes me think the videos are not tied to the new album. But then again, the animals could relate to the over-riding theme of Darwin in “Tomorrow In a Year”. And, while listening to or reading the lyrics, the visuals of these videos easily fit. Also, the album is a collaborative piece, which is a sign to me that maybe Karin is behind all of this, but is working with other artists. Who knows, maybe Karin and Christina and Bjork are in cahoots.
